If you are planning on moving to Hawaii, there are going to be a lot of things that you need to prepare yourself for, Hawaii’s weather being one of them. The culture shock moving to Hawaii can be overwhelming. Your living expenses are going to increase, your driving style is going to need to change, but the amount of sunshine is going to be worth it.

Hawaii’s weather, duh

Sunshine and rainbows in Hawaii are an everyday sight, it’s not uncommon for the weather to maintain a steady 75 degrees all year round in the islands. It’s also not uncommon for there to be sunshine all year round and few cloudy days (typically only in the winter does it get cloudy.) The biggest shock to prepare for in moving to Hawaii is the sunshine. I’m sure it will be a happy shock for you that you’ll be fine with welcoming into your life, but a shock nonetheless.

Hawaii is perpetually sunny.

Unless if you live in a very sunny place near the equator that’s always warm all year round (California would be the closest,) Hawaii’s weather will be a shock to you. Places on the mainland are typically cold 6 months out of the year, whereas the islands of Hawaii are warm 12 months out of the year. The coldest it will get in the winter is 65 with rain, and that’s not even bad compared to places like Chicago where the cold drops below 0 with wind chill. Growing up in Hawaii I seriously took for granted how lovely warmth is and what it can do for your skin and well being. Hawaii is always warm and humid so your skin is constantly moisturized and tan, and it does a lot to help boost your self confidence.

Hawaii’s weather is also steady and easy to dress for compared to places like Reno, Nevada where the weather is always changing and unless you walk outside before you get dressed, it can be easy to dress inappropriately for the weather. However, in Hawaii, it’s always warm, so you’ll never have to worry about wearing a coat one day and shorts the next, or switching between shorts and leggings in one day (which I’ve had to do before here in Reno.) I love how consistent the weather is in Hawaii, and I love that the consistent weather revolves around warm sunlight.

Sunshine is healthy for you

Sunlight can also do wonders for your mood. Seasonal depression is a common thing in cold places, especially like Alaska where there are only a few hours of daylight during the winter months. In Reno, we can go days without sunlight in the winter and it really sucks because you don’t wanna go outside when that happens, you just want to stay indoors cooped up in your house, which can hurt your well being and happiness. I’ve definitely felt a slump of emotions during winter, and I can’t do much about it. I notice the gym helps. This is an issue you definitely won’t have to worry about if and when you move to Hawaii, the rainbow state. Hawaii’s weather is always sunny and happy and uplifting! There’s a reason why we have rainbows on our licenses and license plates, it’s always sunny and happy here all the time.
