If you’ve wondered what it costs to move to Hawaii, there’s finally a tool that will give you an instant answer without the hassle of having to be contacted by someone for “more information”.
Fill out the form below and you’ll get an answer in under a minute.
After researching the market it seemed that every “moving estimate form” was really just a lead generator for moving companies that forced me to talk to a salesperson and while that’s not bad in and of itself, sometimes you just want a number and don’t really feel like talking to someone.
Being the software inventor guy that I am, since I couldn’t find a tool like this for Hawaii, I just decided to build one myself. Try it!
This new method gives you an answer in less than a minute straight to your inbox. You don’t need to call anyone nor will anyone call you. Whether you’re totally serious about moving to Hawaii or are just curious as to what it will take, try out the new tool. Feel free to use it as often as you want to get different estimates and let me know what you think!
Is it possible to move to Hawaii and get a job?
Yes. I have a lot of details on the homepage
Hi Peter,
We lived on Oahu (1970 to 1977) while stationed on Ford Island in the military. We absolutely loved being in Hawaii. We would move back in a heartbeat if only we could afford to. We lived in Mililani Town and would want to live there again. Shipping household goods is pricey from what I know. Then there is the cost of buying a home. We are hesitant to sell our home and take the leap with the cost unknown. Your advice will be most helpful. Thanks.
Try typing your question in the search boxes – there’s a ton of content on this site. You can also just reply here with your specific question.
Hi Peter, I’m from Okinawa, Japan and my oldest just graduated high school. She’ll be attending a college in the mainland because of the scholarship offer but she’d like to transfer to Hawaii from her Junior year. We, the family, are thinking of moving to Hawaii as well. I’m fluent in both English and Japanese and would like to find a job that connects Japan (preferably Okinawa) and Hawaii or be an interpreter for the visitors. I have an AA and am currently working on my BA. If we were to move, it’d be in 2-3 years from now. I’m married with 3 other children. Do you think we can afford living in Hawaii and what kind of job is out there for bilingual speakers like me? Thanks in advance.
Great question! I just relaunched the homepage yesterday and it’s designed to address questions and situations just like yours. Take a look and let me know what other questions you have that aren’t answered by what’s been posted on the homepage
My response is a two-tiered response. IF your daughter transfers to Hawaii. Hilo has a University of Hawaii campus. IF your daughter’s major is something they teach – then you should perhaps consider it? Main reason – Hilo has a large Japanese population. And MOST of them are from Okinawa originally or are descendants now. Have a look a on the NHK website and there is a great documentary on the relationship of Hilo and Okinawa – there was a huge number of Okinawans who immigrated there. I saw the documentary about a year ago, and if it is no longer available contact NHK directly and maybe they can link it for you. They are a wonderful crowd NHK, I worked for them for a while. IF your daughter does attend UH Hilo – then you will be at a Hawaiian paradise. It is a bit like Okinawa (I lived there a couple years – and have been back a few times – last time was a week in 2015). It is tropical of course, but much cooler and wetter than Okinawa. But the good news – no typhoons. Even better news – Hilo house prices are perhaps the lowest in Hawaii. And much of the food is grown on the Big Island. Eat that and save….and you – being Okinawan – it will be like home. Hilo is the best spot in Hawaii for an Okinawan to come home too.
Just had a look…NHK has a few programs with a Hawaii/Japan basis….This is one of the better ones:

They have done others. One I remember distinctly last couple years is a Japaneseclub of ladies doing Hula for their own interest and respect for Hawaii. Not on the website now – but email them….they might link it for you. They are very good at NHK.
Anyway, don’t worry about moving to Hawaii. You will love it. If you get homesick there are daily flights to Japan.
